Bizen comes to Frechen
. . . . . . . . .
The exhibition Traditions from Japan: Ceramic art from Bizen and Mushiake started this week in Keramion Ceramics Museum in Frechen and will run until 9 November. It showcases some of the most important contemporary artists from Bizen in Okayama prefecture. Bizen is one of the Six Ancient Kilns and one of the oldest pottery centres in Japan. This wonderful exhibition presents a nice balance between traditional and modern and includes Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and his amazingly talented son Koichiro, as well as other leading lights such as Kenshi Nakamoto, Yasushi Mori, Ichiro Mori, Toshiaki Shibuta, Kousuke Kaneshige, Takashi Baba, Tomoko Yokoyama, Fujita Syo, Hiroki Oishibashi, Tozo Konishi and many, many more! There is also a strong master-apprentice representation, a tradition that continues to endure in Japanese ceramics and which sadly has all but disappeared in Europe.
This travelling exhibition has been organised in collaboration with the City of Bizen and the Manga, Anime & Japan Arts Society. Compliments to the staff at Keramion for bringing it to Frechen.
