Bodo Röder exhibition in Langerwehe
. . . . . . . . .
It would appear to be a perfect match. Both are committed to tradition and innovation. The Pottery Museum in Langerwehe (between Aachen and Cologne) is showcasing the work of German salt-glazing specialist Bodo Röder.
Bodo Röder moved to Bickenbach near Darmstadt forty years ago to set up his studio workshop and devote himself to the technique of salt glazing. He uses clay from the Westerwald and France and often employs faceting and fluting to form his characteristic deep spirals and organic structures inspired from nature. His work is both hand-built and wheel thrown and then doused and sprayed with various slips, oxides and stains before being wood-fired and salt-glazed in his trusty Olsen kiln to 1300 degrees. Most recently, he was invited to exhibit his work in Terracotta Museu de Ceràmica de la Bisbal d’Empordà in Catalonia.
You can read my article on Bodo Röder on this website, originally published in the international ceramics journal New Ceramics/Neue Keramik.
The exhibition Bodo Röder – Tradition and Innovation will open in Töpfereimuseum Langerwehe on 16 March 2025 at 11.00 and run until 4 May 2025.
