Decoration for Niek Hoogland

A special occasion in Keramiekcentrum Tiendschuur Tegelen in the Netherlands yesterday when slipware potter Niek Hoogland was caught off guard during the final day of his solo exhibition to receive an honorary decoration for his many years of cultural service in the municipality. Nobody can deny it going to a more deserving recipient and I am sure I speak for everyone in congratulating Niek, Pim and their family on receiving this fitting accolade.
Niek also recently published a wonderful book, Niek Hoogland: Tegels Aardewerk / Earthenware from Tegelen, to coincide with his exhibition. The book provides a personal document of what it is like to live and work at the pottery and portrays the life of a potter dedicated to giving a contemporary twist to the cultural heritage of the slipware tradition. The book can be purchased in the Netherlands from Boekhandel Koops in Venlo or you can drop me a line and I will let you know how you can get a copy.
