Kannenbäckerstad
. . . . . . . . .
The annual ceramics market in ‘Kannenbäckerstad’ Höhr-Grenzhausen is always a pleasure to visit in early June, not only for the wonderful atmosphere and variety of ceramicists, but also because of the location along the narrow streets still full of character and charm.
Höhr-Grenzhausen also boasts the Keramikmuseum Westerwald, one of the largest museums for ceramics in Europe, a host of studios and workshops, and not least a quaint cultural-historical museum portraying life in the town that was, of course, once a thriving centre of Westerwald salt-glazed stoneware pottery. An industry encapsulated by the amazingly sensitive photographs of Werner Baumann in his book Euler about the local Höfer family pottery that closed its kilns in 1982 (ISBN: 3-9800158-4-X).
